I was posed a question recently, how does one get trained either cheaply or for free. If anyone knows of a free GIS training please post it on this board.
I compiled some resources to get folks started in some sort of direction.
I will add more resources as I come across them and hope you will do the same...online tutorials etc. For now this is what I have:
Software:
http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcview/index.html There is a 60 day free trial to the software
Data: Geospatial, geographic areas and boundaries such as zip codes, counties etc, :

Tutorials:

Book:
www.amazon.com/Getting-Know-ArcGIS-Deskt...ditor/dp/158948083X (I think this book comes with a 1 year trial on the arcview software, this book is used as part of the curriculum for intro level GIS class at USC)
Creating Thematic Maps (the book I mentioned can get you started)
