Association of Pacific Coast Geographers 2009 Meeting: Indigenous Student Travel Scholarship
Last Updated on Monday, 06 July 2009 20:10
Aloha,I am pleased to announce the ** attached flyer ** supporting travel for Indigenous students to attend the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers (APCG) Annual Meeting. For those of you already familiar with the APCG Mexican American Travel Scholarship (MATS), this is a similar travel fund set up specifically for Native American, American Indian, Native Hawaiian or Native Alaskan graduate or undergraduate students within the APCG region (AK, AZ, CA, HI, ID, NV, OR, WA, BC, and YT). Thanks to the support of a few good friends and the APCG Board, the Native voice will continue to heard at the APCG meetings.
The APCG 2009 Annual Meeting is in San Diego from Sep 30 – Oct 3. The registration fee for students that are members of the APCG is $40. The $55 fee for students that are non-APCG members includes membership for a year. You will need to sign up for the Saturday Awards Banquet ($32 for students) to receive your award, but since the awards are $150 for Undergraduates and $200 for Graduates there will still be money left for you to offset travel and accommodation. Speaking of which the APCG has negotiated a sweet deal for a quad room at $142 or ($36/night + tx per person) at the conference venue, Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, centrally located in San Diego's Mission Valley. Check out the APCG conference website for more details, http://geography.sdsu.edu/apcg/
Lastly, the APCG is set up to take donations should anyone want to contribute to this fund….just be sure to indicate your donation is for the APCG Indigenous Student Travel Scholarship. Thanks to everyone that helped to bring this idea to fruition. To everyone else….spread the word.
