Cobell vs. Kempthorne - A restitution settlement of $455 Million instead of $47 BILLION for 120 years of mismanagement of Native trust funds. The lawsuit sought accountability from the US government for all royalties due since 1887 from seized lands.

Filed in 1996, by Elouise Cobell, the lead plaintiff in what was the largest class-action lawsuit against the US government. Plaintiffs say they’re considering an appeal. NAGPRA Report: +118,000 Native Americans Left In Storage

According to the NATHPO (National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers) report on NAGPRA, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, released on 8/14/08, researchers determined that about 3 Million of NAGPRA funds were diverted to other things besides grants and +118,000 Native American remains are in libraries or museums.
