A few GIS folks from the Coeur d' Alene Tribe shared with me that they have been recipients of CAP grants since 2005. The Coeur d'Alene Tribe Name Place Project has been possible through various CAP grants. One of the tribe's goal was to officially change fifteen offensive names referencing geographic features (mountains, streams, etc) on tribal land. The mission took from February 2006 until November 4, 2008, voting day, when the U.S. Board of Geographic Names finalized the last name change. Congratulations!
The CAP program will provide approximately $1.3 million in funding for an estimated 26 projects to assist the geospatial data community in implementing the components of the NSDI and is open to state, local and tribal governments, academia, commercial, and non-profit organizations.
