Tribal Canoe Journey for Troubled Sea: Part 2
Released August 19, 2008, the last episode in the Corecast Tribal Journey series for 2008.
The USGS and the Coast Salish Tribal Nation have partnered during the annual Tribal Canoe Journey to study and help improve resources of the Salish Sea. The journey this year has ended, with 100 canoes landing in British Columbia, with 5 canoes carrying water quality probes. The canoe trip is ideal for checking water quality because there is no gas or oil left by the canoes, being manpowered.
The Salish have experienced a decrease in Salmon. It's anticipated that the water quality results will shed light on the reasons behind the decrease in the salmon population.
